Last week, the first IFA Theme Breakfast was held in the beautiful Hotel Storchen. Here, interested participants can get a good overview of a specific topic from the training offer through a short presentation by the instructor.
Almost 20 interested participants could not only strengthen themselves for the day with a delicious breakfast, but also got a short overview of what Kanban means for knowledge work. Above all, the necessity of visualizing the value streams was discussed. Because only if you see the work in your work system, you can optimize it.
By switching from one unfinished task to another, we become inefficient. This could be experienced by the participants through a small experiment on "working on multiple tasks". By limiting the "work in progress", we can focus on the essential work and generate customer value faster. Often we see in practice that work that is new to a system is automatically started and then takes a long time to complete. But money is only earned by completing work, starting work primarily ties up resources and capital.
It is also important to understand that with the visualization by a Kanban board and the limitation of the work in our system the problems are not solved, but we see where improvements must be placed and can optimize so purposefully the value stream. A Kanban board is therefore also a communication platform in front of which the operators of the board meet to manage the value stream together.
Stop Starting, Start Finishing.
After this short introduction, the participants could ask the lecturer questions, which was well used. Over coffee and croissants, exciting and interesting discussions ensued.
